KAWARTHA WILDS POTTERY
I’m Lucia McHardy; I opened Kawartha Wilds Pottery in Trent Lakes in 2004, and joined the Studio Tour in 2006. During the year I work indoors, making stoneware urns, dinnerware, decorative landscape plaques, shawl pins, buttons and Xmas ornaments. In the summer I do raku and smoke fire pieces outdoors, in various primitive fire setups.
I live on rugged land in the Kawartha Lakes region. This gives me a peace and quiet, and inspires my work. My main intent is to create a body of work that is vital and graceful.
Here’s a small landscape plaque, one in a series I’m working on. I’m trying to use abstraction to get a deeper feeling for the outdoors. I really like the combination of textures and various glaze types. I’ll be using this piece as a starting point to make similar wall plaques and possibly urns.
