Lezley Woodhams Photography
Lezley Woodhams Photography Studio, established in 2021, is a creative sanctuary rooted in the natural beauty of the Kawartha Lakes. While each photograph is captured outdoors, the studio is where the images are thoughtfully edited and brought together with intention.
Located in the small town of Norland and often referred to as the “Zen Zone,” the space offers a calm, welcoming atmosphere, shaped by the light, textures, and quiet rhythms of the surrounding landscape.

I photograph quiet moments in nature, inviting stillness, presence, and reflection through light, water, and space.
My Favourite Piece
My favourite piece is a sunset captured on Lake Scugog in Little Britain. It feels like the truest reflection of how I see and create. I’m drawn to shapes, layers, and the quiet structure within a scene—how the land, water, and sky naturally form bands of colour that shift into something almost abstract.
In this image, bold, dramatic reds stretch across the horizon in layered blocks, settling into the darker tones of the lake below. It becomes less about documenting a place and more about responding to a feelingthe stillness, the intensity, that moment when everything quiets and colour takes over. I wait for that point when the scene simplifies and emotion rises through the layers.
My work has been deeply influenced by Mark Rothko, particularly his ability to communicate emotion through large, luminous fields of colour. His paintings were never about objects, but about feeling-inviting the viewer into a meditative, almost intimate experience. I connect to that in my own process. In nature, I find those same layered fields-horizons that break into bands, colours that hover and merge, moments that feel expansive and deeply personal at once.
The Lake Scugog sunset holds that connection for me. The deep reds feel both grounding and powerful, creating a sense of calm while carrying an emotional weight. It’s a reminder that nature, like Rothko’s work, can strip everything down to colour, shape, and feeling-and in that simplicity, say everything.
