Carolyn Showler-Lee

Carolyn Showler Lee Studios

Carolyn is a pottery and mixed media artist living and working in Bobcaygeon. She started her career over 40 years ago working exclusively with clay to create unique functional and sculptural pottery. This work is a mix of hand built, thrown and mold-made originals. A new addition to her creative repertoire are hand-made moth and butterfly sculptures. These new sculptures are made with leather, fabric, wire and acrylic along with found metal and wood objects. All these pieces reflect and draw inspiration from natural forms and colours.

This artist is number 14 on the Studio Tour map.

Biography

I started my pottery studio in Toronto in 1981 right after graduating from college. A few years ago I moved with my husband to Bobcaygeon.

This is when I joined the Victoria County Studio Tour. It’s exciting to open my studio to customers. A place where I usually work in solitude.

I am a big fan of the work of Hundertwasser and Klimt. I do love the freedom of thought, line, colour and design these Masters exhibit. That being said, right now I am working exclusively with stoneware clay but I am combining it with leather sculpture. Always being aware of line, colour and design with my pottery as well as form and function.
