Artist Statement
Once a special education teacher, now a local artist, Sandi is known for her large wall weavings and various “fish” baskets made exclusively from locally gathered natural materials. Sandi is also known as a wire sculpture artist, specializing in trees, big and small, displayed in picture frames. Recently, Sandi’s creative energies have turned to wet and needle felting.
Sandi enjoys creating 3 dimensional art, becoming experienced in 4 seemingly unrelated mediums. She is primarily known for her unusual “Fish Baskets” made from seasonally gathered natural materials found in the Buckhorn area. She also creates large and small wall weavings that are lightweight, but can cover a large or asymmetrical space. Custom orders for weavings are always welcomed.
Wire sculpture trees are another favourite 3D art form. Trees are often presented on altered picture frames. Trees mounted on rocks may be ordered. Stone carving is a summer passion closely followed by felting. Sandi was inspired to learn needle felting skills surprisingly lean on wire sculpture skills for making armatures. Stone carving skills become the opposite process of needle felting 3D animals and birds. Wet felting is used for functional household items.
